Analysing Similar Products

Many promo videos stick to common recognizable conventions. Following common conventions helps the audience to relate the to the promo video and instantly recognize that it is a promo video. another feature of abiding by conventions of other products is that it has been tested and should theoretically be popular with the consumer.

However, some artist choose to create products that intentially break conventions to make them unique and stand out to the audience. This could consequently be risky due to the artist not knowing completely the consumer preferences.

Killers - Mr Brightside

The promo video above keeps to many well known conventions. The video contains many long shots, mid shots and clse ups this is done to enphasise the main artist to the audience. the movement of the artisits lips are syncronised to the lyrics of the song. the artist is also centered in most shots to add further enphasis to the consumer.

Camera Angles
The camera moves around to follow the artisit or band so the consumer can see the band/artist for most of the duration of the video, this is done by camera tracking, tilts, pans and crane shots.

Mise en Scene
The mise en scene in the video is thought about it  in great detail, the colours and props throughout are linked. The red and gold royalistic look is used to show power and wealth in the video. Aspects of the video show that it is set in the past as the clothing they are wearing is dated and brings a connection with the past. Power dressing is used along with cigars and statues to show there high social class to the audience. The woman are wearing huge amounts of unrealistic make up to signify the fantasy side of the product, they all look asthetically pleasing, this is also done to please the consumer and hold there attention.

Editing
The editing within the video is in timing with the music (same tempo) along with the movement of the singers mouth to the lyrics. Most change in the clips come from straight cuts to keep the audiece entertained and absorbed. At the end the final clip fades to black as it ends to represent the end of the video.

On the reverse the colour and style is continued aswell as the font. The tracklist is on the back to fit with common conventions traditionally used. Snow Patrol Website

Website conventions consist of many detailed and intricut aspects. As you can see above with snow patrols website the have used the same font style as on there album cover, this has been done so that the viewer can instantly see that the website is from the same producers as the album. This technique has also been used with the main colours (Black, White and red). Other main links from the digipak and the website consist of the font and the instantly recognizable snow flake logo symbol.

All shown below on the album cover.

Other main conventions of a music website consist of  links to other pages that show further in depth information about the band e.g. merchandise, tour dates, gallery, blog and home page. Other key conventions consist of a large title stating the artist or bands name, the copy right symbol and the names and logos of other websites that they are featured in.
